Molly from Molly and the Greys is back! Some weeks ago, you could read the first interview with her:
Interview with Molly and the Greys: Everything about Mocha!. Today, she is back to talk a bit more about how she got into horses and answers some questions from My Horsez users!
Molly, from from the social media account @mollyandthegreys on
instagram and
tiktok, is an Irish Equestrian that posts daily life content of herself and her 3 horses, Moonlight, Misty and Mocha, also known as the M-team!
Question from My Horsez User: Why and how did you get into horses?
When I was 14 we were on a family holiday in Italy, and I saw a sign for horse trekking. I hadn’t had much interest in horses before, but I said to my mum that we should do it! We didn’t actually end up having time for it on the holiday, but it planted the seed in my mum's head that I would be interested in horse riding…so she got me riding lessons for my birthday next month! I fell in love instantly, and the rest is history.
Question from My Horsez user: Who was your favorite pony when you grew up?
Since I was a late bloomer, I don’t really have a favourite from when I was a young child. I do however have a favourite horse that I learned to ride on! His name was Apollo, a piebald pony that I just adored, and took me over my first 1m jump on my 15th birthday! I was close to buying him but someone got there before me! I still think of him sometimes.
What made you decide to start sharing your (horse) life on social media?
When I bought Moonlight I made my account for the purpose of sharing his journey. With him being a young, difficult horse, I thought it would be great to document the process not only for me, but for others to enjoy following along with! I follow similar accounts myself, and always enjoyed them. I did also feel very inspired by a few of the larger equestrian vloggers that shared their horses' lives.
What’s one major challenge you’ve faced in sharing your equestrian lifestyle online, and how have you overcome it?
The negativity around my riding ability can be difficult a lot of the time. I’m very hard on myself anyway, so to have lots of comments criticising everything I do is a bit mentally challenging. I’ve always maintained I’m not a professional rider and never will be, but I do try to be the best rider and owner that I can be for my horses. Unfortunately there is no cure, but you do get to a point where you’re better at ignoring it. I try to remind myself that I always strive to be better, and the people criticising only see small snippets of what I do.

When you're not filming or managing social media, how do you decompress with Moonlight, Misty, and Mocha?
My favourite thing in the world is bringing them in for a scratch, and a big fuss. I love pampering them and tidying them up, taking a picture and telling them I love them. It’s the perfect lazy Sunday for me. I have also been trying to catch them lying down in the field over summer as much as possible! There’s no better feeling than lying down with them and having a cuddle.
Question from My Horsez user: How is Moonlight faring now with his kissing spines and getting back into work?
Moonlight has come so far both physically and mentally. He’s always been a very sensitive horse that wouldn’t tolerate feeling anything less than 100%. He is now at the point where he can have something bothering him in his body and he won’t be quite so dramatic in his communication of that. I do think it’s helped that I know him so well and recognise the little signs that he needs checked out! I keep an extremely close eye on him and I’m happy to say he is settled into light work and we are looking into stepping it up and seeing how he copes!

Question from My Horsez user: How is the war trying to catch Mocha, Moonlight and Misty lying down been?
It’s an ongoing battle! Moonlight is the only one who actually enjoys the cuddle sessions. Misty tolerates them because she is simply such a chill gal. Mocha is still a bit resistant to the cuddles and stands up when I get close. I choose to believe it’s because she’s so excited to see me and knows I have treats!
What is a feature about the game My Horsez you enjoy so far?
I really enjoy the Quizzeys! I’ve found myself learning new things as there’s questions I don’t necessarily know the answer to and have to research. I think it’s wonderful to have that educational aspect to a game and it’s a bonus that they get you coins!
