1. Horses can yawn up to 14 times an hour. So if you see a horse yawning, it doesn't always mean it's sleepy, but it could just be letting some air out of its body. Although, of course, it could also mean that the horse fancies a nap!

2. Horses do not have a gallbladder, which means they constantly secrete small amounts of bile into their digestive system. This is why their urine often looks so dark! Fortunately, humans do have a gallbladder, otherwise the world would look very different.

3. Did you know that horses are capable of making more than 20 different facial expressions? They can frown, curl their lips and even move their ears in different directions to express their mood. Say cheese!

4. Horses have an excellent memory. They can even remember things they learned years ago. So a horse won't easily forget if you fell off it, ouch...

5. An average horse can produce about 40 litres of saliva per day. That's enough to fill a few buckets! So, in addition to their love of hay and grass, they also produce a considerable amount of saliva. I'm so glad I'm not a horse!

6. Horses are naturally large and strong, but here's some information you might not expect! Horses have the largest eyes of any land mammal. Their eyes are about the size of a tennis ball!

7. Horses have a unique way of greeting each other. Instead of shaking hands or paws, they sniff each other's noses. This is called ‘nosing’ and it is their way of getting to know each other.

8. Horses have the unique ability to recognise humans and other horses by their voice. They can distinguish between different individuals and even recognise familiar voices after a long period of no contact. So if you haven't seen your horse for a while, it will probably still recognise your voice when you talk to it again!

9. Horses have an excellent sense of direction. They can orient themselves based on the position of the sun and the Earth's magnetic field. So even when they are in unfamiliar territory, they usually know how to find their way home. Handy for when you are lost, let your horse do the navigation!

10. Horses have an astonishingly large heart. On average, the heart of an adult horse weighs about 4.5 kilograms, which is about 10 times heavier than a human heart. This powerful organ pumps blood through their bodies with great force, giving them the energy and stamina to run and work long distances. So they have a lot of love to share!
