General breed information
The Mountain Horse is a general term for horses bred as riding and working animals in the mountains. They are strong and confident horses that are well-suited to the steep slopes, rugged trails and changing climatic conditions of the mountains.
They often have great stamina, are well-balanced and have a calm temperament. Their strong legs and hard hooves make them suitable for rocky terrain. They also have a compact, muscular build, which ensures stability.
The Mountain Horse comes in many colours. However, silver black is the most common colour.
Nowadays, they are used in a variety of ways. In addition to walk, trot and canter, some Mountain Horses even have extra gaits.
