The American Miniature Horse, a small but brave horse! You read that right, the American Miniature Horse is indeed a horse, and not a pony which its height would suggest. Its height cannot exceed 34 inches, which is as much as 86.5cm. So incredibly small. Incidentally, this is calculated slightly differently from most horses. We normally use the height at withers. The American Miniature Horse is measured from the ground to the last hair of the mane.

The Miniature is an intelligent horse. They are curious, gentle and very willing to work, although they can be stubborn at times.

The breed was once created by crossing shetlanders with thoroughbreds. Eventually, this produced horses that were no bigger than shetlanders but still looked like thoroughbreds. A fine head with a light dish, just like the Arabian Thoroughbred. They have small ears and large expressive eyes. They come in almost all colours and there is also quite a variety in terms of markings.

The American Miniature Horse studbook was founded in 1978 and is known as the American Miniature Horse Assosiation, AMHA for short. It now has more than 160,000 registered horses.

Obviously, this mini is not suitable for riding. Although it is still sometimes ridden by very young children. The American Miniature Horse is mainly used for shows. Occasionally, they are even used as guide horses for the blind or therapy horses.
