General breed information
The Fjord originates from the mountains of Norway, where farmers used the horse for forestry work and as a means of transport.
They are very strong horses with sturdy legs. Nowadays, a more modern type is bred than the mountain horse that was used in the past. The horses usually come in five colours. Brunblakk is the most common colour, but Rodblakk, Gra, Gulblakk and Ulsblakk also occur. To make the dorsal stripe stand out better, the mane is cut in an arch.
They have a calm temperament and are very popular as leisure horses. However, this does not mean they are unsuitable for competitions.
